How do RTKs function?

1 Answer

Activating signaling molecules (ligands, agonists) bind to RTKs, causing neighboring
RTKs to form cross-linked dimers. Cross-linking leads to tyrosine kinase activation
via cross-phosphorylation. Once activated, TKRs stimulate an enzymatic cascade of
reactions that ultimately lead to changes in the patterns of gene transcription.
