Like rubber and aluminum, vinyl is also a commonly used material for extrusions. There are various vinyl extrusions out there that people find very useful in their everyday lives.

A vinyl compound refers to any organic compound that contains ethenyl or a vinyl group. These compounds are derivatives of ethylene. Vinyl extrusion can refer to either the process of producing a useful item from vinyl or the products themselves. Basic vinyl extrusion material may come in one of three styles. These styles are flexible, rigid, and semi-rigid compounds. The final products are created after a simple process. The raw material, vinyl, is forced through a shaped die on one end of the extruder. When the material emerges from the machine, it takes the shape of the die. The items are then cooled down with a water bath and other methods. The final product can be flat, glossy, or semi-glossy.

Vinyl is a widely used material for extrusion because of its several appealing and desirable properties. Vinyl extrusions have tensile strength and excellent rigidity. Under normal use, they can resist physical damage. They also possess inherent resistance to fire and ignition in ambient conditions. When the source of the fire is taken away, they will not support a flame. They also have outstanding resistance to extreme weather conditions. They can stand very high and very low temperatures, strong winds, ultraviolet light, snow and rain. Vinyl extrusions can also act as a retardant of most common chemicals such as detergents, acids, and cleansers.

Items produced through vinyl extrusion, like vinyl itself, transmit heat very poorly. Vinyl`s low thermal conductivity makes these products warm to the touch, even in cold weather. They are also excellent insulators. That’s why they are also used to coat electrical wires to protect users from sparks and getting electrocuted. They are also immune to galvanic corrosion, unlike most metal extrusions. Vinyl extrusions are also recyclable.
