Position the cars as close as possible. It should be close enough but not actually touching each other. Everything should be shut down. This is to avoid getting fried by the surge of electricity.
2. Hooking the Cables
First find the positive and negative terminals of your battery. The usual color of the positive charge is either red or orange. The usual color for the negative charge is black.
It is better to double check this. It is not so hard. The charges are usually indicated on the battery itself.
You can then hook one end of the positive cable. This is usually red. Hook this onto the dead battery’s positive terminal.
You can then hook the other end to the positive terminal of the live battery. The negative cable would go next. Hook one end of the link to the negative terminal of the live battery.
Make sure the other end of the line is connected to a metal surface. An example would be an unpainted, clean, part of your car. Leave the other end on the ground if there is nothing available. Do not be alarmed if sparks emit.
These are just simple and basic steps. You will find a variety of techniques as you get used to doing it. It is still advisable to get an expert for worse situations.
