How to Bake a Layer Cake
Layer cakes are multiple cakes placed on top of one another and held together by frosting or filling. This white layer cake recipe is vanilla-flavored and one of the easiest to do, and can be easily paired with any kind of flavored frosting. The recipe will yield two layers of cake and takes around an hour to prepare and bake.

Ingredients
2 and 1/4 cups sifted cake flour
1 and 1/3 cups sugar
1/2 cup butter, softened
3/4 cup whole milk
3 and 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
4 egg whites from medium-sized eggs, at room temperature
4 tablespoons flour
A stick of butter or baking spray
Tools
1 mixing bowl
2 9″ round layer cake pans
Food processor or whisk
Wax paper
Egg separator (optional)
Wire rack
Oven thermometer
Procedure
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit or 176 degrees Celcius.

Make sure that your layer cake pans are clean. Wash them again if you are unsure. After drying, grease the layer cake pans using butter or a baking spray. Follow with a sprinkling of flour on top. Line with waxed paper and set aside.
Sift the sugar, cake flour and baking powder into the mixing bowl. Add the softened butter, vanilla and milk.
Put the mixture in the food processor put on a slow speed beat until everything is blended. Increase the speed on a medium beat for another two minutes, pausing every now and then to scrape the sides of the bowl.
Separate the egg whites while the food processor is beating.
Add the unbeaten egg whites into the mixture, and allow two more minutes of mixing at medium beating speed.
Turn the food processor off and pour the batter into the the pans. Do NOT fill the pans with batter; only fill it up to a little more over than half of the pan. Shake the pans slightly to even the batter out.
Check if your oven has reached the desired heat and put the pans in. Baking time will take around 20 to 30 minutes. Signs that the cake is baked: it turns golden-brown and starts to pull away from the pan’s inner edges. Sticking a toothpick in and having it come out cleanly without bits of cake is also a sign that it’s baked.
Take out of the oven and allow the cakes to cool for 10 to 15 minutes while still in the pans. Carefully remove the cake from the pans and give them more time to cool on the wire racks.
Make more layers as desired. Top with whatever filling, fruits, candies and frosting you’d like.
