How To Make The Perfect Baseball Cap

1 Answer

You cheer and pump your fist whenever your favorite team gets a hit or a homerun, and you go home teary-eyed whenever your team loses to its biggest rivals. As a team loyalist, you show other spectators how to properly give team support from the stands. You might as well make a baseball cap to increase your influence on the crowd.

Every true blue fan of a baseball team has a baseball cap. This stylish headgear proudly bears the insignia of a baseball team. Most baseball fans often shell out a good sum of money just to have one of these items. However, you can save a lot of money with a little effort if you made your own baseball cap. What’s a little work when you can have more cash to buy season tickets and hotdogs, anyway?

A baseball cap is not too hard to create. You will fill polyester with cardboard then sew it to polyester-based sections of the cap. The process may be challenging at the start, but once you get the hang of it, you will have your cap in no time. Besides, you are making your cap for your favorite team. You would not want to be considered some ordinary fan by Barry Bonds or Alex Rodriguez.

Materials Used:

polyester (3 x 3 feet)
clothing rubber (4 x 10 in.)
sewing machine
sewing needle
sewing thread
scissors
drill
MLB team patch
4 open buttons
1 closed button
pencil
tape measure
clip
The Shortstop on the Materials

Baseball caps are made from tough high-quality polyester. You may have to search different textile stores for this type of polyester, but if you fail to find it, you can just place a custom order. You can also get the clothing rubber for the cap’s visor in a textile store. As for the buttons, the small clip and the sewing equipment, a quick visit to a sewing store will do the trick. Your final destination is the sports store where you can get a patch of your favorite baseball team’s logo.

Hit a Home run with Hat Sections

Measure your head’s circumference and the distance between the lower part of your forehead to your temple, to get the dimensions of your baseball cap. When you have the cap’s dimensions, outline a circle with four triangular sections on your polyester sheet. The circumference of the outlined circle should be slightly larger than your head’s circumference. Once done, cut out the four sections. Drill a small hole in the top portion of all cap sections. Make sure that the holes are placed in the exact same location for each section. Now, sew the four open buttons to the holes.

Swing Away and Connect the Cap Sections

Gather all four sections and fold them to form the shape of your cap. Once folded, sew all of the sections together. Cut a two-inch opening at the back portion of your cap. Keep in mind that the opening should be positioned at the bottom center portion, one-half inch above the bottom line. Once done, cut the bottom line beneath the opening then affix the clip. You can now adjust your cap to perfectly fit your head. If you want to stylize your cap, you can run a couple of hemlines around the bottom portion of your cap. Once finished, bore a hole through the topmost point of your cap then affix the closed button. Cover the button with polyester.

Strike Out Sunlight with the Visor

Get the sheet of clothing rubber and bend it to form a “U” shape. Once done, cover the rubber with polyester then sew it to the front part of your cap. Stitch four hemlines on the front portion of the visor to make it look slick and stylish.

The Baseball in Baseball Cap

The final step is to attach the most important part of your baseball cap, the baseball team patch. Get the patch and position it on the front-center portion of your cap. Once done, stitch the patch to your cap.

Now, you have a slick baseball cap. The moment you wear it, you will feel your body get engulfed by a strong unseen force called team spirit. You can now call yourself a “Superfan.”
